Police in India said they arrested the husband and parents-in-law of a young woman for allegedly burning her and her baby girl alive. The suspects allegedly poured kerosene on Annu Devi, 22, and her 1-year-old daughter at their home Thursday and then set them on fire, CNN reported. The child died at the scene and the mother died later in a hospital. The suspects were jailed pending a trial. The couple married three years ago, and the complaint states the young woman was harassed for money for a dowry. The dowry was likely the motivation for the crimes, police said. Dowries are banned in India, but giving expensive gifts is still common practice. In 2012, the killings of 8,233 women were classified as dowry deaths.
