Rectors and Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education M Nasir met President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The rectors were from the Indonesian Rectors Forum, State University Rectors Council, and the Association of Indonesian Private Universities (APTISI).
"This is all done in order to develop better education in Indonesia and to anticipate the development of education in the world," Nasir stated after meeting Jokowi.
Nasir revealed that the president had provided directives for a rapid change in the field of education and had stated that universities should no longer just look like businesses as usual.
"We have to respond speedily to the development in this world so that we can understand the kind of educational process and licensing process that have to be done in the future," he stated.
The minister admitted that such things have been done for a long time, but there are some problems related to other regulations.
"The Ministry of Research and Technology has regulations. I always seek an offer from all rectors on the regulations that need to be revised in order to make improvements," he remarked.
Nasir explained that the presidents directive should be carried out as soon as possible to bring improvements to the regulations that concerned higher education.
He cited the regulation governing the licensing of the study program.
The Minister of Research and Technology revealed that currently, the study programs can be developed more widely so that they can be changed quickly.
