The University of Madras has convened a special syndicate meeting on Saturday to finalise and approve the appointment of faculty members in about eight departments for which interviews have been held so far. According to sources , the special meeting has only one agenda — scrutinising the merit of each candidate selected through the recruitment process that began late last month and granting approval for appointments. For the first time, the university administration has introduced video recording of the interviews to ensure ‘transparency’ in the recruitment process of over 90 faculty posts. However, a section of the faculty has been arguing that transparency should be about displaying the credentials of eligible candidates on the varsity’s website, granting marks for qualifications like teaching and so on..
