The State of Qatar attaches great importance to higher education in particular. It continuously accords to it financial and moral support with the aim of raising the academic qualifications and efficiency to enable it to cope with the requirements of modern time as well as to meet the needs of specializations and programs. Qatar University is currently working very hard to realize this objective. Qatar University started in 1973 with the two Faculties of Education for boys and girls. Then a year after another it started to develop and expand, increasing its activities and faculties until it turned officially into a complete and integrated university in 1977. The university today comprises six faculties: Education; Arts and Science; Sharia'a and Islamic Studies; Law; Engineering; and the Faculty of Economics & Administration. The University of Qatar graduated, during the past period and until 2006, about 22543 students, 17897 of whom were Qatari nationals from both genders; the teaching staff amounted to 676 members. All university faculties award the degree of Bachelor to their students. They continuously seek to streamline and update their programs in order to cope with the requirements of labor market, successive needs of society and the global developments in the academic sphere. Each faculty draws out its own well-studied strategy which ensures reaching out to public and private organizations and institutions. All faculties endorse the constituent program which is a prelude to qualification in the specialization in English language and scientific subjects such as Mathematics and Computer sciences. North Atlantic College: The program of the North Atlantic College is highly flexible in order to meet a wide range of requirements. There is the one year as well as the two years programs, whereby students are given an internationally-recognized university degree. There is also the three years program which qualifies students to obtain the College Diploma. However, the BA, MA, and PHD holders may also join the College programs which qualify them for employment at various institutions. College graduates are also availed the opportunity to pursue their higher studies at Canadian universities.
