The College of Banking and Financial Studies (CBFS) recently conducted a training programme titled “Finance for Non Finance People” for staff of Shell Oman. Conducted at the premises of Shell Oman in Qurum, the training programme, facilitated by Dr K Rajesh Nayak, Director-Training, CBFS, was divided into three parts. The first part dwelt on the accounting cycle and understanding of financial statements. The second part outlined the technique of analysis and interpretation of financial statements using ratios. The third part dwelt on the budgeting process and budgetary control through variance analysis. CBFS is in the forefront of training activity in the country, having offered over 300 courses attended by over 6,000 participants in the last three academic years. Apart from 80 open enrollment courses each year under its Annual Training Plan, covering various areas such as banking, finance, risk management, HRM, IT, IS, legal, compliance, audit and soft skills, customised courses are also offered for specific organisations to meet their specialised training requirements. During the current academic year 2012-13, it has offered over 90 courses attended by about 1,800 participants. Its clientele encompasses most of the leading banks and financial companies, in addition to ministries and other corporate. The College is also offering training courses in Islamic Banking leading to globally recognised certifications in the field.
