Awqaf Minister Mohamed Mokhtar Gomaa

Egyptian Minister of Awqaf Mohammad Mokhtar Gomaa renewed warnings against using university campus to spread extremists thoughts among students or making any electoral campaigning to any religious current or sect.

In statements to MENA on Sunday on the occasion of the advent of the new academic year, Awqaf minister pressed the need for spreading correct thoughts about Islam and highlighted the necessity of contact between men of religion and university students to rectify the wrong images about Islam.

The minister, who is currently chairing Egypt's official hajj mission, uncovered a joint plan outlined in cooperation between the Ministry of Awqaf, the Ministry of Higher Education and presidents of universities to organize symposiums and meetings with university and school students to explain the correct understandings of Islam and ban the spread of extremist thoughts on the university campus.

He also called for taking firm action and all legal measures to put to trial any person who is proved to have been involved in any sabotage, attack incidents or attempt to impact students.

The minister reiterated that students have a mission to build their societies and not to make any sabotage actions, adding that students should focus their attention on science, research and innovation to introduce progress to their societies.

In the meantime, the head of Egypt's official hajj mission will hold a press conference later on Sunday to unveil details about the deaths among Egyptians in Mina stampede incident.
