A series of competitions were launched across Egypt targeting physically and mentally challenged students, said Education Ministry adviser Enji Mashour on Monday.

As many as 13,000 students with special needs took part in the first week of the local sports and cultural competitions, she added.

Competitions cover a number of sports including futsal and powerlifting.

After winning local competitions, winners will be qualified to regional contests to be held at the level of directorates then they will go nation-wide.
