Education Minister Dr. Majid bin Ali Al Nuaimi

Education Minister Dr. Majid bin Ali Al Nuaimi headed Bahrain’s delegation to a symposium organised today in the UAE by the Emirates Centre for Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR) under the theme “Education, Extremism and Terrorism”. He gave a presentation on the systematic terrorism and subversive acts which have targeted the educational institution in Bahrain since 2011. He pointed out exploiting students in acts of sabotage and the damage incurred by the educational institutions as a result of that as well as the attempts made by the terrorists to impede the school day and deprive the students of their inherent right to education in a secure environment.
The minister highlighted the efforts made by the Education Ministry to handle the repercussions of the attacks including mainly launching the project of the school boosting citizenship and human rights which was remarkably successful in promoting co-existence, tolerance, acceptance of other opinions and renunciation of violence and extremism in schools.

Al Nuaimi emphasised the praise accorded by international experts and specialists to the project after bringing it to the spotlight at the headquarters of The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Geneva-based Human Rights Centre and the Global Dialogue. He said the project was dubbed as a pioneering international human rights and educational experience which will be generalised by the Education Ministry in all primary and intermediate schools this year.

The presentation also shed light on the educational march in Bahrain and the achievements made in this respect, stressing the importance of school curricula in building the brains, values and national trends.

The Bahraini delegation gave an account during an exhibition held on the sidelines of the symposium on the attacks which targeted the educational institutions and have reached 571 attacks of various types, including hurling Molotov Cocktails, smashing windows, raiding schools and attempting to set them ablaze.

Keynote speakers at the symposium included ECSSR Director General Dr. Jamal Sanad Al Suwaidi, the UAE Education Minister Hussain bin Ibrahim Al Hammadi and Egyptian Education Minister Dr. Tarek Shawky
