Around 650 Syrian refugees are preparing to leave their shelters in public schools ahead of the new school year, aid officials told The Daily Star. Over 50,000 refugees receive aid from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, and a small percentage of those reside in communal housing like schools and public buildings. Over the next week the families living in schools will be forced out for the start of the new school year at the end of September. UNHCR is working to find the families alternative housing including rehabilitating rundown or incomplete buildings, UNHCR officials said. But finding shelter is increasingly difficult as the country’s low-budget housing market has become saturated with refugee families in the north and east of the country. (daily star)
