Nepal Teachers' Union and Nepal Educational Republican Forum called strike on Sunday saying the Ministry of Education (MoE) was not positive to address the demands of teachers' unions. The two alliances of teachers' unions have announced closure of all public and private schools indefinitely from Sunday. Teachers' unions have blamed the MoE for failing to implement its commitment to give permanent status to temporary teachers and amend the Education Act. Minister of Education Dinanath Sharma and representatives of teachers' unions agreed on Friday to hold talks with chairman of legislature and whips of major political parties over the same issues. Gunaraj Lohani, chairman of All Nepal Teachers' Organization, was quoted by the National News Agency RSS as saying that they were forced to protest as Sharma abandoned the dialogue.
