Secretary-General of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) Dr. Ahmed Abdulla Farhan today inaugurated NIHR's website, in line with NIHR's keenness to provide comprehensive services regarding its activities related to protecting human rights and promoting their culture among citizens and residents. The move follows His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa's issuance of Royal Order 28 for this year, amending some provisions of Royal Order 46 for 2009 on the establishment of NIHR in order to enable the latter to assume its roles and responsibilities of protecting human rights freely and independently, in accordance with the Paris Principles adopted by the UN General Assembly's resolution 48/134 of 20 December 1993. The website was designed to serve all experts and those interested in human rights issues inside and outside the kingdom as it included links to national human rights legislations, international human rights conventions and agreements and important human rights websites. Most importantly, the website provides the e-Complaints service to serve as a means through which individuals can lodge their complaints to the NIHR, in accordance with its duties outlined in the Royal Order. The website will be a key reference for researchers looking for human rights documents. The English version of the website is still under construction. The NIHR's site is available at http://www.nihr.org.bh
