The new director of the national Mauritanian Television, Khaira Bent Al-Shaikhany, has announced her resignation from the country’s ruling party due to her personal conviction that public media should not to be attached to any political party and to avoid any suspicion of bias.  In a letter addressing the party leader of the Union for the Republic, Al-Shaikhany explained her resignation, saying that she is complying with her conviction that any work in the party would be at conflict with the job assigned to her by the Mauritanian government which requires her to distance herself from all political factions.
