The press club has named its main hall after renowned late Lebanese journalist and founder of the Press Club, Youssef Howayek.

The Club also unveiled a commemorative plaque bearing Howayek's name, and launched Youssef Howayek Award for Media Excellence.

The event took place at the invitation of the Press Club, and in partnership with "Alpha" mobile operator and Orascom Telecom, under the patronage of President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, represented by Information Minister, Melhem Riachy.

For his part, the Information Minister delivered a word in which he described late Howayek as an exceptional person.

"Joseph Howayek had a rare heart; he gathered us when we could not meet and when we parted. I hope we never part from this day onwards because Howayek has brought us together in this hall and we will keep meeting under his name in the days to come," Riachy said.

"Youssef Howayek had a distinctive heart, spirit, and courage that many lacked," Riachy added.

"Youssef Howayek was one of the symbols of freedom that he defended and was imprisoned for. This freedom is an integral part of Lebanon, which without, Lebanon will lose its value," he concluded
