Cairo - MENA
Egypt called for concreted efforts by Arab media to counter the phenomena of terrorism, violence and extremism that hinder development and threaten stability in several countries of the country.
The Head of the Egyptian Radio and Television Union (ERTU) Safaa Hegazy made the statement on Monday in a speech during the meeting of the Executive Council of Arab Information Ministers at the Arab League headquarters.
Hegazy, who is also head of the Executive Council, said security solutions, despite their importance, are not enough to combat terrorism, stressing that media plays a key role in countering this scourge.
The participants in the meeting will discuss many topics, including a proposal by the council's technical secretariat on "media and the agenda of sustainable development" to enhance media role in achieving the development process.
Also among the meeting's agenda are to deal with recommendations pertaining to the Palestinian cause to rally support of the international public opinion, and to combat arbitrary measures and policies of the Israeli occupation forces against Palestinians.
The council also reviews a report of experts to prepare for the Arab Media Day due in 2017, and a proposal by Egypt on the 47th meeting of the Arab Information Ministers' Council.
