The PEUGEOT 308, recently voted 2014 car of the year in Europe, adds to its range with the new 130 hp PureTech turbo petrol engine. A standard production hatchback has just established a new fuel consumption record: 2.85 litres of fuel per 100 km (99.1 mpg) and 1 810 kilometres (1 124 miles) travelled on a tank of fuel ! This performance was achieved on the Almeria circuit (Spain) under the supervision of the French test authority UTAC (Union Technique de l’Automobile, du motocycle et du Cycle). A PEUGEOT 308 hatchback, strictly standard, fitted with the new PureTech three-cylinder turbo petrol engine and a six-speed manual gearbox ran for more than 32 hours, consuming 51.4 litres of fuel. The PEUGEOT 308 established a new record for fuel consumption and distance travelled on just one tank of fuel. To achieve this result, several drivers took their turn at the wheel during the test. This performance was obtained with a standard production model and so allows the PEUGEOT 308 1.2l e-THP 130 to become the benchmark in fuel consumption for mass-produced petrol-engined vehicles. Compact, clean and powerful, this turbo engine is a distillation of efficiency and the latest technology. Using high pressure (200 bar) direct injection and a new generation high efficiency turbo (running at 240 000 rpm), it represents a real technological break. Associated with the most compact and lightest car in its segment, this engine is able to fully express its exceptional dynamic nature and fuel economy. Already a benchmark in its category for Diesel with its BlueHDi 120 hp version, which has an average fuel consumption on the combined cycle of 3.1 l /100 km (91.1 mpg) and well contained CO2 emissions of 82 g per km, the PEUGEOT 308 has demonstrated once again the quality of its design and the uniform approach taken with the whole vehicle. On sale at the end of March, the PEUGEOT 308 1.2 litre e-THP 130 has official fuel consumption of 4.6 l /100km (61.4 mpg) and CO2 emissions of 107g / km. It is added to the three petrol engines (from 82 to 155 hp) and four Diesel engines (from 92 to 150 hp) currently available in the 308 range. As regards the PureTech turbo petrol engine, it will be available on the 208 and 2008 in a 110 hp version in the coming weeks. Source: PEUGEOT
