Detroit - UPI
Ford Motor Co. said Saturday it is recalling 5,800 2012 Edge sport utility vehicles for fuel leaks that could cause a fire, its third vehicle recall since July. The Detroit News said the recall includes 5,499 2012 Edge SUVs with 2.0-liter engines in the United States and 346 in Canada. Company spokeswoman Susan Krusel said Ford had learned of 12 cases in which fuel had leaked from a customer\'s Edge, though no fires, injuries or crashes had resulted. Ford expects to have replacement parts by the end of the month. The company said it determined a fuel line pulse damper metal housing may crack because of an improper manufacturing process. The cracked part could produce a fuel odor or a fire if it is a steady leak. Recall letters will be mailed to customers the week of Sept. 24. On Monday, Ford said it was recalling 7,600 2013 Escape SUVs in the United States and Canada. That recall involved a dislodged cup plug in the cylinder head of vehicles with 1.6-liter engines that could lead to a rapid loss of coolant and a subsequent risk of fire, though again none were reported. It was the second recall for the 2013 Escape. In July, 11,500 Escapes were recalled and owners urged to stop driving them immediately because of fire dangers after three fires were reported.
