If we had to choose just one line of Audis to drive for the rest of our lives, it would have to be the A5 range. With a sizzling hot RS5, a spacious and stylish A5 saloon, and a convertible A5 making up this assortment of goodies, there’s something for everyone. But now the A5 line has been trundling along stealing BMW and Mercedes sales for four years, meaning it’s that mid-life crisis period of the model’s existence, and time for a facelift. So the refreshed 2012 Audi A5 range gets subtle tucks and creases all around the exterior, because it’s not exactly like the models are in need of any drastic plastic surgery. The slight styling updates have been made to the front and rear fascias just to bring the several iterations of the A5 in line with the newer models, such as thealready-launched 2012 A6. The front end gets wraparound LED daytime running lamps, while the taillights received only a mild design update. Article continues below As for what’s under the bonnets, Audi hasn’t made any drastic changes for 2012, except to the S5 which doesn’t benefit from the company’s awesome free-revving 4.2-litre V8 anymore, like in the good ol’ base R8. This engine is slowly being phased out in favour of direct-injection turbo units, which means the S5 has received the new 3.0-litre force-fed V6, producing 333bhp and 440Nm of torque. So far the word is that these 2012 updates are only for Europe - initially at least - but it’s only a matter of time until we get our own cargo ship docking in at Jebel Ali.
