It seems like that the country’s 5th largest car maker General Motors India has decided to give its Indian portfolio a major boost by adding as many as five new car models in its line-up within this year. The company is ready to launch a range of new cars in India this year that comprises of three completely new car models and two upgraded versions of its existing cars. The GM global portfolio vehicles that are expected to mark debut in the Indian auto market include hatchback Chevrolet Sail, sedan Chevrolet Sail and new Multi Purpose Vehicle (MPV) Chevrolet Enjoy. On the other hand, the existing portfolio vehicles that will be launched in a new generation version include 2012 Chevrolet Tavera Neo 3 MUV (BSIV version) and 2012 Chevrolet Captiva SUV. Chevrolet Sail hatchback The first and the most awaited Chevrolet model in the Indian market is the premium hatchback Chevrolet Sail that is expected to mark its debut in the country in June/July 2012. The Chevrolet Sail will be replacing existing Chevrolet Aveo U-VA hatchback in the country and is expected to be shelved in the price range of Rs 5 to Rs 6 lakh. The car is likely to be rolled-out in both petrol and diesel options, powered by a 1.2L S-TEC II petrol engine and Fiat sourced 1.3L multijet diesel engine. The car will be rivaling with the likes of Skoda Fabia, Nissan Micra and Honda Jazz in the premium hatchback segment. Chevrolet Sail Sedan The same Chevrolet Sail model will also be marking debut in entry level sedan segment where it will be replacing the existing Chevrolet Aveo sedan. The Sail model is most likely to be introduced in both diesel and petrol versions, powered by 1.4L petrol and Fiat sourced 1.3L multijet diesel engine. The car is likely to be launched in India by the third quarter of this year where it will take on with the likes of Hyundai Accent, Maruti Swift Dzire and Toyota Etios. Chevrolet Enjoy- MPV The third model in the GM India’s line-up is an all new MPV – Chevrolet Enjoy (temporary name), which will be fighting for space with the likes of Toyota Innova, Mahindra Xylo, Tata Aria and Maruti’s upcoming Ertiga model. The car is likely to be launched in both diesel and petrol fuel options carrying a 94.6bhp 1.4-litre petrol, and a 1.3-litre SDE diesel. The expected launch date of the car is July 2012. Chevrolet Tavera Neo 3 BSIV The remaining two upcoming cars of the company include new BS-IV variant of Chevrolet Tavera Neo3 and new face-lifted version of luxury SUV Chevrolet Captiva. The auto maker has already launched the BSIII version of Tavera Neo 3 in India. The BSIV version is all ready to hit the market in March or April 2012. New Chevrolet Captiva The New Chevrolet Captiva is also anticipated with revamped exterior and interiors. The powerhouse of the SUV will also get some muscle with decent upgrade that is a 2.2 litre diesel engine doing away the existing 2.0 litre motor. The 2012 Captiva will be released in April or later in 2012. Both of these vehicles are expected to be launched in the country very soon (speculated in the March – April period).
