The Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Department has seized 46 vehicles for having expired vehicle registration cards in the first week of a campaign that had been launched to clamp down on the problem. According to a statement sent out by police the duration of the expiry ranged between six months up till three years. First Lieutenant Abdullah Al Qubaisi, branch manager of traffic control at the department, said that authorities want to raise awareness among drivers to ensure that they renew their registration cards in time to enhance traffic safety. By renewing the registration, he pointed out, drivers are ensuring that the vehicles are safe and that they have no defects that could endanger the lives of other road users. The campaign was launched on Sept.20 with additional patrols being deployed on internal roads and highways in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region. Drivers found with expired registration cards were fined and the vehicles confiscated. Police pointed out that 41 vehicles were seized in Abu Dhabi and five in Al Ain. ( from The Gulf Today )
