International Delegation witnesses significant progress

Leading nuclear energy experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency, IAEA, and senior UAE officials visited the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant in Abu Dhabi today, witnessing the significant progress being made across all four units.

The delegation observed all of the key updates to the construction of the units which are being developed to the highest standards of nuclear quality, safety and security. The visit came ahead of the IAEA International Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Power in the 21st Century, which is being held in Abu Dhabi from 30th October to 1st November.

Unit 1 is more than 96 percent, while Unit 2 is more than 87 percent, Unit 3 is more than 78 percent, and Unit 4 is now 58 percent complete.

Overall, construction of the four Units is now more than 84 percent complete. All four units will deliver clean, efficient and reliable electricity from nuclear energy to the UAE grid, pending regulatory reviews and licensing. When the four reactors are completed, the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant will save up to 21 million tons of carbon emissions each year.
