Two new whales' valleys were found in a 10 kilometer area, north of Qaroun in Fayyoum, southwest of Cairo, National Geographic magazine said. An Egyptian archaeological mission found full skeletons of 42-million-year old whales. The whales are 6 to 18 meters long. The mission also found remains of crocodiles aging about 10,000 years. The discovery was announced during the "First International Congress of Prehistory in the Arab World" which was held at Cairo University in December, archaeological expert Dr Abdel-Rehim Rihan said. National Geographic was keen to highlight this important discovery in its annual edition. National Geographic magazine has even asked Dr Khaled Saad - the head of the mission - to write an article on the discovery. Rihan called for making use of this interest in Egyptian archaeology to boost tourism.
