Wooden garden furniture has somewhat fallen out of favour with landscapers and designers looking for something more contemporary and durable. But wood has a number of advantages over say, metal furniture, another popular material used for outdoor tables and chairs. It is beautiful, durable, naturally blends in to the surroundings, lasts a long time and is relatively easy to maintain. Wooden furniture blends in naturally to the environment and because there are so many different types of wood, individuals can choose from a variety of colours and types to naturally blend in to outdoor spaces. Contrary to popular belief, wooden furniture tends to be very durable. This is extremely important for furniture that is going to be placed outdoors because it has the elements to contend. Outdoor furniture will have to withstand rain, wind, snow (depending where one lives) and sunshine. Overtime, if the wood is not properly protected, then it can begin to wilt, shrink or rot, so it does take a little informed care. However, it is relatively easy to maintain; it will need to be cleaned on a regular basis and can be varnished depending on the type of wood used- teak- for example, doesn’t need any TLC to keep it looking fresh.
