The Chess is the name chosen by interior designers Patrick Gilles and Dorothée Boissier for their first hotel, which opened quietly in the French capital this summer.
Managed by the Compagnie Hôtelière de Bagatelle, which operates a handful of boutique hotels in Paris including Chantal Thomass's Vice et Versa, the new four-star property has 50 rooms, each with a unique ambiance created by the interior design duo.
On the floor of the lobby, a black and white checkerboard pattern reflects the hotel's name. In the guest rooms, the same motif is echoed in miniature on the tiled bathroom walls.
