It is a dream of love. A love story between a perfumer and the rose. Idylle’s story has the spontaneity of love at first sight and the joy of a wild impulse. It began as an encounter. A carefree game of seduction, as intense as the Eau de Parfum in which flowers are combined with the sensuality of chypre. It then continued with a promise whose tenderness was revealed by Idylle Eau de Toilette. Bulgarian rose blossomed with freesia and neroli, as gentle as a caress. Finally, there was a duet. Like Idylle Duet, where rose accompanied patchouli at the heart of a sensual and velvety score. On each occasion there was the rose, the key to this fragrant idyll created by Thierry Wasser. “I wanted to offer a bouquet of fresh and joyful flowers, like an ode to love,” he said. Today, Idylle is being reinvented in a new composition that tells the story of rose and water. Eau Sublime… Eau for a sensual caress of fine raindrops. Sublime for Bulgarian rose, which is revealed in all its splendour. Thierry Wasser has chosen to combine rose essence with rose water at the heart of Idylle Eau Sublime. A duo, unprecedented in perfumery that blends tradition and innovation. Rose water has been part of the House of Guerlain’s heritage since 1830, alongside Lait de rose, L’eau de roses distillée non spiritueuse and Alkoolat de roses. But this is the first time in its history that it has been paired with rose essence. A bold move that enhances Bulgarian rose and reveals all the facets of the flower. A journey to the very heart of the matter, where the senses take flight on a discovery of this olfactory gem. This is obtained by distilling the flower. A long and meticulous process, similar to the production of a fine alcohol, which preserves all the aromas of the rose. Steam from water brought to boiling point carries fragrant molecules with it and passes along the coil of the still, slowly cooling down to become a liquid when it finally reaches the essence collector. The water that falls into the flask at this point is known as rose water. On its surface float the essential oils that will be collected to give rose essence. The secrets of a duet For Idylle Eau Sublime, Thierr y Wasser wanted to express the thousand and one faces of the rose: Its delicacy and transparency… when, during the night, its petals become beaded with dew after the humidity from the mountains has laid its veil of freshness.
