The Meteorological Directorate said that the month of August was warmer than normal average in temperatures with below average relative humidity and above average wind velocity.

The mean temperature of the month was 35.5 C which is 1.5 C above the long-term normal for August. Note that the highest mean monthly temperature ever recorded in Bahrain for August was 36.6 C which occurred on August 2017.

The mean maximum temperature of the month was 39.6 C which is 1.8 C above the long-term normal. The highest temperature recorded during the month was 44.5 C which occurred on August 5 at Bahrain International Airport (BIA). Note that the highest temperature ever recorded in Bahrain for August was 45.7 C which occurred on 9th August 1993.

The highest temperature recorded in the month at Durrat Al Bahrain was 45.6 C on August 5-7. During the month Bahrain had 11 days with maximum temperature exceeding 40 C.

The mean minimum temperature of the month was 32.4 C which is 1.9 C above the long-term normal. The lowest temperature recorded was 30.4 C set on August 28 at BIA but recorded 27.6 C on August 21 at Durrat Al Bahrain.

The mean relative humidity for August was 52% whereas the mean maximum relative humidity was 71% and the mean minimum relative humidity was 31%.

Although the temperatures were above normal, the relative humidity were well below normal except in some days due to persisted of "Al Shamal" northerly winds.

"Al Shamal" northerly winds affecting Bahrain throughout the month of August with short breaks on few days and accounted 40% with gusts reaching 32 knots on the August 1-13 at BIA but reached 37 knots on August 13 at Durrat Al Bahrain.

Dust affected the Kingdom on August 13 reduced the visibility to 1500 meters at BIA.
