A US judge ruled Wednesday that prosecutors can proceed with a sexual assault charge against disgraced TV legend Bill Cosby, throwing out an attempt by his lawyers to dismiss the case.

The case, brought to court in Norristown, just outside Philadelphia, is the first criminal charge filed against the 78-year-old among dozens of allegations of sexual assault spanning four decades.
