Media group Ziff Davis buys embattled Gawker Media

Gawker Media, the embattled gossip and celebrity online news group, said Friday it had reached to deal to sell its brand to publisher Ziff-Davis in a bankruptcy auction.

Ziff-Davis, part of the j2 digital media group and known for its hobby magazines, will acquire the brands from Gawker, which faces a $140 million court award for releasing a sex tape of wrestler Hulk Hogan.
