The new CEO of embattled German carmaker Volkswagen, Matthias Mueller, vowed on Friday that "we will overcome this crisis," as the company reels from revelations it fitted some of its diesel cars with software that tricks pollution tests.

Mueller vowed maximum transparency in future and said that the carmaker, it if learns from its mistakes, could "emerge stronger from the crisis in the long term."
