US stocks surged in opening trade Tuesday, joining European equities in rallying one day after worries about China pummelled global financial markets.

Four minutes into trade, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 2.22 percent, while the broad-based S&P 500 gained 2.16 percent. The tech-rich Nasdaq Composite Index rose 3.03 percent.
