US stocks rallied Tuesday in line with European markets after two straight sessions of steep declines in the wake of Britain's surprise vote to leave the European Union.

At the closing bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was at 17,408.15, up 1.6 percent. The broad-based S&P 500 gained 1.8 percent to 2,035.99, while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite Index jumped 2.1 percent to 4,691.87.
