The US economy expanded 2.3 percent in the second quarter after a first quarter revised to growth of 0.6 percent, the Commerce Department said Thursday.

Higher consumer spending helped boost growth in the April-June period. First-quarter gross domestic product previously was estimated to have contracted 0.2 percent.
