The Maldivian parliament on Thursday voted to impeach Vice President Ahmed Adeeb, who is under arrest over an alleged attempt to assassinate President Abdulla Yameen.

Some 61 out of 85 legislators in the assembly voted to remove Adeeb, who was arrested last month in connection with a September 28 blast aboard President Yameen's speed boat. The other legislators were absent.
