Japan consumer prices down 0.3% in April

Japan's core consumer prices fell 0.3 percent in April on-year, the government said on Friday, remaining way below the Bank of Japan's 2.0 percent target.

The core consumer price index reading released by the Internal Affairs Ministry, was slightly better than a Bloomberg forecast of a 0.4 percent fall. CPI, which excludes volatile fresh food prices, was also at minus 0.3 percent in March.
