Argentine shares closed down 6.3 percent Monday, as turmoil on China's stock exchange hit markets worldwide.

The Merval stock index in Buenos Aires closed at 9,833.20 points, on a day that also saw sharp losses in Brazil, Mexico and Chile, as well as Asian and European markets.
