UN investigators on Monday accused Damascus of carrying out an "extermination" in its prisons and detention centres, pointing out that Syrian authorities were aware of detainee deaths "on a massive scale". Describing how "thousands of detainees held by the Syrian government have been beaten to death or died as a result of injuries sustained due to torture," the UN commission of inquiry on Syria accused Damascus of committing "extermination as a crime against humanity." |
