Syria attacks

Syrian regime forces advanced Tuesday into the strategically important town of Salma, the main bastion of rebels in northwestern Latakia province, a monitor said.

Supported by pro-regime militias, fighters with Lebanese Shiite movement Hezbollah and intense Russian air strikes, the army broke through into eastern Salma and was engaged in heavy fighting with rebel forces, said Rami Abdel Rahman, head of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
