US President Barack Obama

President Barack Obama will on Wednesday nominate Merrick Garland, a centrist judge, to fill the Supreme Court seat left vacant by the death of justice Antonin Scalia, US media reported.

Citing White House officials, The New York Times said Obama would put forward the 63-year-old experienced appeals court judge as his choice of nominee at 1500 GMT, setting the stage for an election-year showdown with Republicans.
