Sporadic bursts of gunfire and heavy explosions rocked a diplomatic district of the Afghan capital late Tuesday, AFP reporters said, with police unable to immediately verify the target of the attack.

Kabul police chief Abdul Rahman Rahimi said security officials were trying to confirm the target in the Wazir Akbar Khan area of the city.
