Mexican authorities on Monday stood by their conclusion that 43 students who disappeared last year were incinerated in a garbage dump by a drug gang.

A day after independent investigators challenged that account, Tomas Zeron, the director of investigations at the attorney general's office, said that the official probe "leaves no doubt that a great number of people were burned" after being killed.
