Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Wednesday publicly condemned for the first time the January 2 attack on Saudi Arabia's embassy in Tehran.

Referring to the incident, in which vandals set fire to the embassy, leading Riyadh to sever diplomatic ties with Tehran, Khamenei said that "like the British embassy attack before it, this was against the country (Iran) and Islam."

Britain's embassy in Tehran was attacked in 2011.
