Spain's "Indignado" protest movement won the most votes in the race for mayor of Barcelona on Sunday and came second in Madrid where it could forge a governing coalition, near-complete results showed.

Groups backed by the upstart left-wing party Podemos won one more seat than the nearest rival in a divided Barcelona city council and were one seat behind the ruling party in Madrid, the interior ministry said.
