National pledges to slash greenhouse gases unveiled in a UN report Friday are a "game changer," said French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius, who will host a year-end climate summit in Paris.

"The national contributions are a game changer, and distance us from the worst," Fabius said in a statement, adding that they keep alive the chances of capping global temperature increase under the UN target of two degrees Celsius (3.6 degrees Fahrenheit).
