Police on Friday fired tear gas to disperse several thousand supporters of powerful opposition figure Moise Katumbi in DR Congo's second city Lubumbashi, as they protested against charges he hired foreign mercenaries, an AFP reporter said.
The protesters were gathered outside a courthouse where dozens of lawyers had arrived to give their backing to Katumbi, who has denounced the allegations against him as "a grotesque lie".
