Two loud explosions were heard in the centre of the Somali capital Mogadishu on Friday followed by automatic gunfire, an AFP correspondent and a police official said. 

The first blast took place at 7:45 pm (1645 GMT), with a second shortly afterwards, and Somalia's Shebab militants claimed an ongoing attack against a central city hotel.
