Mariah Carey, the best selling female artist of all time is headlining the 15th edition of the Emirates Airline Dubai Jazz Festival 2017 at Dubai Media City Ampitheater on Thursday. Other singers lined up to perform include Tom Jones and Enrique Iglesias, who will take the stage on Wednesday and Friday respectively.
Carey said she is happy to be back in Dubai, but chose not to reveal any details of her show.
“I don’t want to ruin the surprise, but I will be playing some fan favorites. I couldn’t be happier to be back in Dubai after all of these years. As always, I’m going to bring the fun and glamor. You can always count on my shows to do that,” she said in an interview with Gulf News.
During its 14-year-long history, the Emirates Airline Dubai Jazz Festival has been an attraction for many fans from all over the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the region with a total of 465,000 music attendees. Last edition’s event was the best ever in terms of attendance as each day was sold out for a total of 35,000 over three days.
However, it was recently reported Carey’s fans are not so keen to watch the pop singer at her latest gig as tickets to see the award-winning performer had been slashed to encourage people to attend.
OK! reported that the popular app The Entertainer, which is the Middle East’s version of Groupon, advertised tickets to Mariah’s show at 50 percent off.
It comes after Carey’s disastrous performance in New York’s Time Square as part of the city’s New Year’s Eve celebrations, after which the singer quit social media.
