EU ministers impose more sanctions on Damascus

European Union foreign ministers on Monday imposed new sanctions on the Syrian government. The assets of two more firms were frozen, the European Council said. The ministers also imposed a travel ban and asset freeze on three people who are believed to provide funding for the Assad regime. Commenting on the 15th round of sanctions and restrictions, EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton said they are aimed at the regime rather than civilians.
