UN Secretary-General's special envoy in Iraq Martin Kobler condemned the series of explosions that hit Baghdad today and resulted in a large number of casualties including children. Kobler emphasized the urgent need to stop the horrible crimes being committed against the Iraqi people and to end violence in order for Iraq to achieve future prosperity and security to its people and that all Iraqi leaders should act responsibly and in unison to promptly end the current violence. Kobler urged the Iraqi people to stand against any attempts at hampering Iraqi efforts to attain a better future, reiterating United Nations commitment to assisting Iraqi government and people in their efforts to build a peaceful, democratic and prosperous Iraq. The Iraqi capital, Baghdad, was ripped today by a series of explosions which killed and maimed tens of innocent civilians.
