The terrorist attack that killed at least 141 people including 132 children has ended as security forces killed all seven militants that attacked an army-run school in Peshawar, northern Pakistan, on Tuesday.
The spokesperson for Pakistan military, Gen. Asim Bajwa in a news conference in Peshawar said the attack was over with all seven militants dead.
He confirmed that 141 people were killed in the attack including 132 children and nine staff members. He said that the terrorists who attacked the school had "no intention" of taking hostages; rather they wished to kill as many people as possible. "Their sole purpose, it seems, was to kill those innocent kids. That's what they did," he added.
Gen. Bajwa told that all seven dead terrorists had suicide jackets on them. He said that 1,099 children were registered at the school and that 960 people were rescued from the location. The military spokesman said that the operation against the militants would continue and would not stop until every one of them was finished.
Condemnations poured in across the globe and all political leaders of the country. Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif condemning the attack and announced a three-day mourning in the country.
