At least four militants and a kid were killed while four security personnel injured during an overnight clash between the militants and the forces in Pakistan's southern port city of Karachi, officials said Tuesday.
Spokesperson of paramilitary troops Rangers said that the forces conducted a search operation at the militants' hideout on a tip-off by another terrorist arrested a few days ago by the forces.
The operation was conducted in Urdu Bazar area of the city on Monday night and ended after seven hours in the wee hours of Tuesday morning, he said.
The spokesperson said that the militants hurled hand grenades at the rangers during the operation in which four troops got injured.
In retaliatory attack, the forces shot one militant dead while three others blew themselves up upon being cornered.
A hard-core militant tried to flee from the compound and was arrested by the rangers, the spokesperson said.
A five-year-old kid, who was passing by the site with his family, also got killed after receiving a bullet injury during the exchange of firing between the forces and the militants.
The spokesperson said that the insurgents rented the house three months ago and were preparing suicide jackets and other explosives for terrorist activities in the city.
He said that the militants could not be identified and their details will be shared after the completion of identification process.
The spokesperson said that a huge cache of arms and ammunitions were also recovered from the militants' hideout.
