Vogue and the writer responsible for Cara Delevingne's piece in the July issue are under fire for using dismissive language to categorize the model's relationship with women.
In the latest issue of the magazine, Delevingne gushes about her relationship with singer St. Vincent, but people are angered that the author of the piece, Rob Haskell, used the word "phase" in describing her current dating preference.
"Her parents seem to think girls are just a phase for Cara, and they may be correct," he wrote.
A petition was created by Care2 user, Julie Rodriguez, which demands an apology from the magazine's editor-in-cheif, Anna Wintour, for the feature's poor wording.
"The idea that queer women only form relationships with other women as a result of childhood trauma is a harmful (and false) stereotype that lesbian and bisexual women have been combating for decades," Rodriguez said. "How could Vogue's editorial staff greenlight this article and publish it without anyone raising concerns about this dismissive and demeaning language."
The petition has garnered 13,000 signatures as of Thursday afternoon. Vogue has not yet commented on the matter.
